This weekend primarily revolved around the Super Bowl. There was a lot of excitement for us and even for the girls and their friends given that the event was taking place in New Jersey. I mean it’s not like this type of thing happens in the Giants/Met Life Stadium every other year or so. For those who live outside the US, the Super Bowl is comparable to a European football/soccer final except ours revolves around a lot of food and TV ad watching and critiquing.
We kicked off the weekend with a visit to Montclair’s Big Game Festival, where there were lots of animation from live music performances and arts and crafts throughout the afternoon. There were also ice sculptures, a bouncy house and a magician as part of the entertainment and many restaurants offered Super Bowl specials.
On Sunday, we continued our chow-fest when we celebrated the French feast, La Chandeleur (more on that on Wednesday). Then, the Super Bowl game…the only time of the year when I am okay for the whole family to eat dinner in front of the TV. As upsetting as it was to witness the Broncos falter in all its attempts, I have to say that it was refreshing to see the bravado and fearlessness of the Seattle Seahawk players. Also, loved, loved the Bruno Mars performance. It’s clean (no wardrobe malfunction or twerking involved), classic with a twist. I thought that having Red Hot Chili Peppers join Bruno was a great idea. I love how they seamlessly blended with Bruno’s performance.
The weather cooperated the whole weekend with temps in the 40s and low 50s. But it seems like we’re paying for it today with another snowstorm dumping another six inches of snow and schools closed for the fourth time this winter.
How about you? Did you watch the Super Bowl? Or did you opt to do something totally different this weekend?
