It’s impossible to go to Miami Beach and not notice the Art Deco buildings scattered near Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Reminiscent of the early 30’s or so, these Art Deco buildings are a little different from its contemporaries in other cities. The Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, which is the epitome of Art Deco, are sleek, mostly grey and metallic. The South Beach Art Deco buildings, also called Tropical Art Deco, take cues from its proximity to the water. The buildings often have pastel beach-like colors and are sometimes inspired by ocean liners. While I love the New York Art Deco buildings, there is just something so happy and whimsical with the Miami Beach ones that I adore.
