I had the opportunity to go to a benefit at the Metropolitan Museum last Thursday. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I am not a black-tie type of gal. Yes, I like clothes, shoes, etc., like a lot of women. But formal clothes are just not my cup of tea.
I have a very dear friend who is part of the Apollo Circle, the young patrons of the museum. She has invited me multiple times to go to this particular function but I either had a conflict of some sort or found a great excuse not to go. I felt bad continuously saying no to her and thought perhaps I should go this year. Besides, my sister and another friend also thought of going so we could all be each other’s date.
This year’s event was sponsored by Maiyet, a new luxury clothing brand, that focuses on sourcing clothes from various parts of the world, including Indonesia, India, Kenya, Italy and Peru. The company partners with a non-profit group called Nest, which promotes training and business ownership in countries where they do business. It is such an admirable business model given the rare opportunities for entrepreneurship in many of these places.
The benefit was at the Temple of Dendur at the Egyptian section of the Met. When I think of this part of the museum, I always think of the movie When Harry Met Sally when Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were out on one of their dates. I had a lovely time at the benefit as I caught up with my friends and sister. I did think it was kind of cool to party next to such important historical relics. This is probably the closest thing I can get to partying in Egypt!
Please excuse the quality of my photos. I only had my Iphone with me.
