Summer Reading
As I am getting ready for the girls’ last day of school and the long days of summer ahead of us, I’ve also been actively researching what books to read this summer with the girls and for myself. The thing is that I got to get my e-book purchases now before we go to France as I am not able to make my Kindle purchases while I am there. I’m sure there’s a way to purchase Kindle books while I’m in Normandy but I just never sat down and figured it out.
Lately, I have been loosely following the Oak Park (Chicago) Park Library’s reading list in choosing which books to read with Chiara and Ines. We visited this wonderful library when we were in Chicago over Christmas holidays. I love how the books on their lists are often under the radar. It’s not your typical reading lists with all the classics. Instead, there are tons of well-written books that feature stories and cultures from all sorts of background.
Other than the library’s lists, I plan to read these books over the summer:
With Chiara (10 years old):
- Chronicles of Narnia
- A Wrinkle in Time
- Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland
With Ines (7 years old):
- Two Nancy Drew Notebooks (Singing Suspects and Slumber Party Secret)
- Matilda
- James and the Giant Peach
For me:
- The Snow Queen: A Novel
- The Vacationers: A Novel
- The Map Thief: The Gripping Story
- Love Nina: A Nanny Writes Home
That’s a hefty list. We’ll see if we can plough through all those books!
