I still can’t believe that I’m a mom to a 12-year-old. Nothing really ages you more than having older kids. But seriously, the last 12 years just went by so quickly — some of the moments are a bit of a blur as I try to hold on to them through photography and writing.
I love how my older girl is growing. She’s calm in her demeanor but sarcastic, silly and fiercely loyal to her friends and loved ones. Analytical, creative, resilient and emotionally mature beyond her years, she deserves the best in years to come.
As I was looking through stuff on the internet the other day, I came across this letter that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote to his daughter. It made me think of my girls, but especially Chiara (everything below is pretty relevant except for the stuff on mosquitoes vis-a-vis current scare). The one true thing I wish for her is courage — to go where no one may have gone before, to speak out and stand up for her thoughts when no one else may seem to agree, to stay true to herself.
Happy Birthday to this little lady!
